People moves: Evelyn Partners, Progeny, and Cazenove Capital

Evelyn Partners has announced a senior addition to its investment management leadership team with the appointment of Matthew Spencer as head of intermediaries.

Spencer will take over from head of UK IFA, Craig Wright, and report to chief investment management director, Chris Kenny. He has almost 40 years of experience in the wealth management industry in a variety of senior leadership roles. His key positions over the past decade include head of business development & marketing at Close Brothers Asset Management, head of intermediaries at Deutsche Bank and head of business development at Coutts & Co. In his new role, Spencer will lead all aspects of Evelyn Partners’ business development team, catering to the needs of financial advisers across the UK and internationally.

Advisory firm Progeny has appointed former HSBC group chief financial officer (CFO), Ewen Stevenson, as its inaugural chair.

Stevenson’s previous roles also include Royal Bank of Scotland CFO and several senior management roles in investment banking at Credit Suisse. He was also executive director on the boards of HSBC and Royal Bank of Scotland. Stevenson currently chairs the Board of Serendipity Capital – a Singapore-based venture capital fund – and RNID – a UK charity for hearing loss. Progeny stated that Stevenson’s experience will help it continue to build its franchises across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

Cazenove Capital, the wealth management business of Schroders in the UK, has named Dominic Brentnall as portfolio director in Birmingham.

Brentnall brings over 14 years’ experience to the position, having held roles at Santander, Barclays Wealth Management, and, most recently, UBS. Cazenove Capital said this newly created role reinforced its commitment to delivering “exceptional service” to its expanding community of entrepreneurs and business owners in Birmingham. Brentnall’s appointment is the latest development in Cazenove Capital’s regional growth strategy. He has also held the position of chair of the Personal Finance Society for the Birmingham region.
