People moves: St. James’s Place, HSBC Private Bank, and Rimbal

St. James’s Place has appointed Justin Onuekwusi as its CEO, investments.

Onuekwusi has been covering the role on an interim basis since January and replaced Tom Beal, who has been on compassionate leave and has decided to move on from St. James’s Place. In the permanent role, Onuekwusi will lead the firm’s Investment Directorate, with responsibility for investment strategy, fund governance, platform innovation and discretionary fund management. He will also permanently join the St. James’s Place Group Executive Committee. Onuekwusi joined St. James’s Place in 2023 as chief investment officer following a decade at Legal & General Investment Management, where he served as head of retail investments, EMEA and head of retail multi-asset funds. He brings more than 20 years of experience to the role, with earlier spells at Aviva Investors, Merrill Lynch and Aon.

HSBC Private Bank has named Hannes Hofmann as global head of family offices.

In the newly created role, Hofmann will oversee the private bank’s global family office proposition. He will be based in London and work with HSBC’s Corporate and Institutional Banking teams to deliver HSBC’s full capabilities to family office clients. Hofmann brings more than 25 years of experience in global private banking to the role. He was most recently global head of family office group at Citi Private Bank and previously worked at J.P. Morgan Private Bank for 20 years.

IFA firm platform Rimbal has appointed Simon Black as its chief commercial officer.

Black joins Rimbal with over 25 years of experience in building and scaling technology-led businesses. He started his career at software firms including IBM, HP, and Autonomy, before joining enterprise automation platform Bizagi and leading its international expansion. Black later co-founded the AI firm Awaken Intelligence, scaling the business before it merged with a US counterpart to form Creovai, which was later acquired by AI platform Capacity. At Rimbal, he will be responsible for platform growth and commercialisation, and the launch of new service propositions that support financial advisers as they adopt AI applications.
