People moves: Evelyn Partners, Rathbones IM, and Schroders

Evelyn Partners has appointed Kate Morrissey as head of asset allocation.

Morrissey will join the firm’s Central Investment Team in the newly created role, and will report to chief asset management officer, Edward Park. She joins Evelyn Partners from HSBC, where she spent 23 years, most recently within HSBC Global Asset Management, where she was ultimately head of world selection and global strategy funds. In that role she was lead portfolio manager with responsibility for the management of the World Selection and Global Strategy fund ranges, worth £10bn and £6bn respectively. Morrissey will lead Evelyn Partners’ macro-economic and quantitative strategy teams to recommend asset allocation decisions to the Tactical Asset Allocation Group (TAAG). She will operate across the Central Investment Team and the TAAG, building consensus on investment decisions and optimising strategies. She will also play a key role in communicating the asset allocation house view to internal and external stakeholders.

Rathbones Investment Management (IM) has named Gareth Evans as independent director in its Cheltenham office.

Evans has joined Rathbones with over 20 years of experience working in financial markets and investment management. He previously worked at RBC Brewin Dolphin where he was an investment manager and divisional director. He also worked as head of the office’s Intermediaries Team where he managed portfolios for IFAs and their clients. Evans will be based in Rathbones’ Cheltenham office where he will manage investment portfolios for private clients, as well portfolios on behalf of financial advisers, solicitors, and accountants in Gloucestershire. This involves developing tailored investment strategies and maintaining strong relationships with financial professionals to ensure comprehensive service delivery. He will report to Tim Hurst, regional director of Rathbones in Cheltenham.

Schroders has announced a new Group Executive Committee (ExCo), focused on executing the group’s business strategy and accelerating its growth transition.

Eight of the ExCo roles have been filled by existing internal executives, while Ed Houghton has joined the firm and the ExCo as group head of strategy and investor engagement. Houghton will formally join Schroders in mid-January 2025, having most recently been group strategy and investor relations director at Legal & General (L&G). He has been responsible for developing and articulating the group’s strategy with the board and executive, and for investor relations, joining L&G in 2019. Houghton was previously managing director and senior research analyst at Bernstein for eight years, covering European insurers and asset managers. Prior to that, he has worked at Aviva and Accenture. Other members of the ExCo include group chief executive, Richard Oldfield, CFO, Meagen Burnett, CEO for wealth management, Mary-Anne Daly, and Schroders Capital CEO, Georg Wunderlin, among others.
