International wealth insurance sales increased by 46 per cent between 2023 and 2025, rising from £36.4bn to £53bn, research conducted by NMG Consulting for Utmost has shown.
This represented a compound annual growth rate of 21 per cent, which Utmost said provided a strong indication of the market’s growth trajectory following post-Covid ‘normalisation’.
Despite this growth, international wealth insurance remained a relatively small part of the broader wealth management market, accounting for around 1 per cent of the £49trn global high net worth (HNW) investible asset market, excluding the US.
Utmost, which is a global provider of insurance-based wealth solutions, said there was a growth opportunity in the international wealth insurance market, underpinned by favourable demographic, client, and industry trends.
It said there was rising demand for cross-border wealth planning solutions, while improving institutional familiarity, awareness, and expansion of advisory distribution from private banks and wealth managers were expected to drive greater adoption of international wealth insurance.
Projections from NMG Consulting estimated that international wealth insurance sales could reach £87bn by the end of the decade, driven by continued growth in specialist resourcing, placement capacity, and higher average case sizes.
“HNW individuals are increasingly looking for solutions that can support their long-term savings requirements,” commented Utmost head of strategy and corporate affairs, Mark Fairbairn.
“As families wealth planning needs evolve, insurance-based wealth solutions are playing a growing role in helping clients structure their assets efficiently and plan for future generations.
"While the international wealth insurance market has grown strongly in recent years, it still represents only a small proportion of the global HNW market, highlighting the significant opportunity given the structural drivers among HNW and internationally mobile affluent families.
"Expanding global wealth, growing demand for succession planning and increased wealth mobility create a compelling backdrop to maintain, or accelerate, the industry momentum seen over recent years."
