Anthropic will support the second group of firms in the Financial Conduct Authority’s (FCA) ‘Supercharged Sandbox’, which companies can use to safely experiment with advanced artificial intelligence (AI).
The AI safety and research company will provide participants with access to Claude, aiming to help speed up their development work.
The second cohort of Supercharged Sandbox firms will explore a range of AI use cases, testing various solutions.
This includes solutions designed to detect fraud and economic crime more effectively, strengthen AI governance and accountability, and enable safer agent-led payments and commerce.
Additionally, they will be testing solutions for widening access to financial services for vulnerable and underserved consumers, and streamlining compliance and business automation.
A total of 21 firms will join the second group, including Scottish Widows, Money Advice Trust and TrueLayer.
The FCA noted that the selection process for the second cohort saw a 51 per cent increase in the number of applicants compared to the first group.
The first Supercharged Sandbox, launched in 2025, saw NayaOne and NVIDIA providing support to help financial services firms experiment safely with AI to support innovation.
“The high level of interest in the Supercharged Sandbox demonstrates the demand for trusted environments where firms can experiment safely and responsibly,” said FCA chief data, intelligence and information officer, Jessica Rusu.
“With the support of Anthropic, participants will benefit from the technology they need to accelerate innovation.
“This is central to our commitment to supporting economic growth – enabling firms to make the most of technological advances while maintaining the UK’s position at the forefront of responsible AI adoption and innovation.”
