People moves: Schroders, Rathbones, and Investec

Schroders has announced the appointment of two executive directors to its board, effective from 1 January 2025 and subject to regulatory approval.

Meagen Burnett will be named as chief financial officer (CFO), succeeding Richard Oldfield who was appointed as group chief executive earlier this month. Meanwhile, Johanna Kyrklund will also join the board as group chief investment officer (CIO). Burnett joined the firm in January 2023 and, as group chief operating officer, had responsibility for operations, technology and change. She has more than 25 years of experience in financial services, including 15 years in asset management, having held roles at M&G, J.P. Morgan, Goldman Sachs, and KPMG. Kyrklund joined Schroders in 2007 as an investor to lead the UK multi-asset business. During that time, she has helped grow Schroders’ multi-asset business, and became group CIO in 2019.

Rathbones Investment Management has named James Kyle as regional director in its Newcastle office.

He has worked at Rathbones as an investment director since it opened the office in 2013, and has supported clients, including entrepreneurs, business owners and professionals, in managing their investment portfolios. As regional director, Kyle will take a leadership role in growing the office and Rathbones’ brand in the region, while continuing to manage and develop client relationships. Kyle replaces Nick Swales, who has retired from his role as regional director. Swales recently retired from his role as office head at Rathbones after more than a decade at the company.

Investec has appointed Luke Spells as head of UK advisory as it seeks to bolster its merger and acquisition (M&A) offering.

Spells has joined the firm from Citi, where he was a managing director in its UK investment banking team and led the coverage of UK mid-cap companies. In his new role, Spells will be involved in the sourcing and execution of transactions on a pan-sector basis. He brings “significant” expertise and experience to the Investec platform, having spent over 20 years advising clients on a variety of public and private M&A, strategic advisory, and financing-related transactions.
