Gretel has partnered with J.P. Morgan Asset Management and Rathbones Asset Management to help investors find their share of an estimated £2.8bn of lost and dormant investments in the UK.
The platform for reconnecting consumers with lost and dormant financial accounts said the collaboration would enable thousands of investors to track and reclaim unclaimed investments.
Gretel has calculated that, across the fund management industry in the UK, at least one million people have become disconnected with their investments.
The total sum of lost monies in the UK, from all types of financial products, has now surpassed £89bn, of which there is £2.8bn in lost investments and wealth funds, with the average account valued at £2,800.
Over the past year, Gretel has been reconnecting people with their forgotten wealth, with the single largest amount being in excess of £168,000.
In the first two weeks of J.P. Morgan Asset Management using the service, an estimated £2.5m has already been matched to its clients.
“At Gretel, we’re proud to partner with leading firms like J.P. Morgan Asset Management and Rathbones Asset Management to tackle the growing challenge of lost and forgotten investments,” commented Gretel CEO, Duncan Stevens.
“With £2.8bn in dormant investment funds across the UK, this issue affects thousands of investors, particularly as investments are often seen as long-term and they can easily become overlooked and harder to trace over time.
“With legacy products now under Consumer Duty regulation and the Dormant Assets Scheme expanding in 2025, Gretel, a longstanding partner to the Investment Association in delivering their Unclaimed Assets Portal, is set to play a pivotal role in transforming how the investment industry addresses lost assets.”
Commenting on the partnership, J.P. Morgan Asset Management EMEA CEO, Patrick Thomson, said: “At J.P. Morgan Asset Management, we are dedicated to reconnecting clients with their assets, and this service serves as an extension of our commitment to delivering positive client outcomes.
“By expanding our options to reconnect with clients, this further strengthens our ability to maintain strong, ongoing client relationships.”
Rathbones Asset Management head of transfer agency oversight, Craig Santangeli, added: “Rathbones Asset Management is pleased to partner with Gretel to help individuals recover lost or forgotten investment assets.
“This not only enables them to be re-united with their rightful owners, but by doing so, supports their financial well-being and future choices.
“We believe Gretel to be a user-friendly service, which is leading the pack in tackling the broader issue of dormant assets, whilst assisting companies to continue to act in the best interest of their clients.”
